Craftsmanship
K-Crafts celebrates Korean heritage craftsmanship through najeonchilgi—the art of mother-of-pearl inlay set into lacquered surfaces. Each piece is created through layered, time-intensive processes where patience and precision define the final result.
The Craft Behind Each Piece
-
Mother of Pearl Inlay (Najeon): Thin, iridescent shell is carefully cut and placed by hand to form patterns that glow as light shifts.
-
Lacquer Finishing (Chil/Ottchil): Multiple layers are applied and cured to build depth, durability, and a refined sheen.
-
Hand Finishing: Edges, surfaces, and details are polished and inspected to ensure a clean, elegant finish.
What to Expect from Handcrafted Work
Because each item is handcrafted, minor variations in pattern placement, tone, and finish are natural and are part of the beauty of artisanal work—not defects.
