Premium Najeon Kkeun-eum Inlay Traditional Jewelry Box (Master Artisan Jang Tae-bok) Mother of Pearl Jewelry Box

Overview

A traditional mother-of-pearl jewelry box built with the kkeun-eum inlay method, in which fine strips of nacre are cut and laid one by one to form crisp geometric and floral lines. Attributed to master artisan Jang Tae-bok, it is a collector-minded piece that still works as an everyday jewelry box.

Heritage & Craft

Kkeun-eum (끊음질) is one of the two principal najeon techniques, prized for the precision of its line work: each sliver of shell is severed and positioned individually — slower and more exacting than broad-piece inlay. The result is a luminous, mosaic-like surface that shifts with the light as the box is turned.

The Artisan — Jang Tae-bok

This box is the work of Jang Tae-bok, who works in the kkeun-eum tradition. Because the inlay is assembled by hand strip by strip, no two boxes are identical.
