Overview
A rectangular lidded najeonchilgi jewelry box in high-gloss lacquer, its lid decorated with butterflies and scrolling vinework in natural mother-of-pearl.
Heritage & Craft
In Korean decoration the butterfly reads as joy, and as harmony between a married couple — which is why it appears so often on pieces meant to be given. Each wing is an individually cut piece of natural nacre set into the lacquer by hand; the glossy finish makes the shell's iridescence flash as you move around the box.
