Crane & Pine OctagonalBorder Double Lidded Jewelry Box (Black, Oh Myung-ho)

Overview

A double-lidded jewelry box in black lacquer with cranes and pines set inside an octagonal border of hand-inlaid mother-of-pearl.

Heritage & Craft

The eight-sided frame is a classic device in Korean decorative art, here enclosing the longevity pair — crane and pine — like a window onto a miniature landscape. Against the deep black ground, every hand-cut piece of nacre reads crisply.

Artist

Attributed to Oh Myung-ho. Hand-finished and subtly individual — effectively one of a kind.
