The peony (moran) is Korea's flower of wealth and honor, and celebratory red is the lacquer color of Korean weddings — the warm counterpart to this box's black sibling. The knobbed, faceted form echoes traditional Korean lidded vessels; each petal is a separately cut sliver of nacre set into the lacquer by hand.
