The plum blossom (매화, maehwa) opens in the last snows of winter — Korea's emblem of perseverance and integrity, first of the Four Gentlemen. Najeonchilgi (나전칠기) is the centuries-old Korean art of inlaying iridescent mother-of-pearl into layered ottchil lacquer entirely by hand, a craft kept alive in Korea's specialist workshops.
