Large Najeon Chilgi Mother of Pearl Plate & Tray — Butterfly

Overview

This Large Najeon Chilgi mother-of-pearl plate and tray features the Butterfly (나비 (nabi)) motif, a Korean symbol of joy and marital harmony. Hand-inlaid iridescent shell is set into deep Korean lacquer, so the design shifts in color as the light moves. It works equally as a display centerpiece on a table or shelf and as a refined serving or catch-all tray for special occasions.

Heritage & Craft

The butterfly carries wishes of joy, love, and marital harmony in Korean tradition, and a pair of butterflies is a classic emblem of a happy union. Rendered in iridescent mother-of-pearl, the wings flicker with rainbow color against the lacquered ground.
