Large Najeon Chilgi Mother of Pearl Plate & Tray — Mandarin Duck

Overview

This Large Najeon Chilgi mother-of-pearl plate and tray features the Mandarin Duck (원앙 (wonang)) motif, a Korean symbol of love and fidelity. Hand-inlaid iridescent shell is set into deep Korean lacquer, so the design shifts in color as the light moves. It works equally as a display centerpiece on a table or shelf and as a refined serving or catch-all tray for special occasions.

Heritage & Craft

Mandarin ducks mate for life in Korean lore, making them the classic emblem of conjugal love and fidelity—a traditional wish for a devoted, lasting marriage. The pair is inlaid in mother-of-pearl, their plumage shimmering in rainbow tones across the lacquer.
