Hand-Carved Wood Sculpture - Family II by Kim Dong-heon

Overview

A low, horizontal hand-carved wood sculpture on the theme of family: two tall curved forms lean inward over a row of small upright figures, the whole set on a dark rectangular base. The sweeping outer shapes read as sheltering arms.

Craft

Carved from solid wood and hand-finished, with visible grain and a graduated stain from pale to dark. Each piece is worked by hand, so proportions, grain and colouring vary slightly between examples.

Artist

The work of Kim Dong-heon, a Korean wood-carving artisan, whose hand-finishing gives each piece its individual character.
