This Peony Round 2-Tier Jewelry Box Small is a Korean mother-of-pearl box in the form of a round two-tier box that opens to the left, offered in small size. Its lid is worked with a peony design in hand-inlaid nacre.

Heritage & Craft

The peony (moran) is Korea's flower of wealth and honor, long chosen to wish a household prosperity and standing. In najeonchilgi, slivers of natural shell are cut and set into the lacquer by hand, so the design shifts color as the light moves.

Artist

Attributed to Oh Myung-ho. Each piece is hand-finished and subtly individual — effectively one of a kind.
