Overview

A single-tier rectangular lidded jewelry box in the Joseon style, its lid set with birds in flight among flowering branches in mother-of-pearl, framed by an inlaid nacre border. Attributed to Oh Myung-ho.

Heritage & Craft

Birds among blossoms belong to the hwajodo tradition, read as harmony and abundance. The shell is cut by hand and set into the lacquer, then polished back through repeated coats so the design sits flush and shifts colour with the light.

Artist

Attributed to Oh Myung-ho. Hand-finished, so each example is subtly individual.
