A rectangular lidded jewelry box in high-gloss black lacquer, its lid set with small birds among a blossoming branch in hand-inlaid mother-of-pearl.

Heritage & Craft

Blossom-and-bird scenes are a mainstay of Korean decorative art, read as a wish for a season of good fortune. Each petal and feather is cut from natural shell and set into the lacquer by hand, then polished back flush over repeated coats so the inlay lies inside the surface rather than on it.
