The deep black ground is the classic stage for natural nacre: plum, orchid, chrysanthemum, and bamboo flash silver, blue, and rose as the light moves. The sagunja motif carries the four virtues Korean scholars painted for centuries — resilience, refinement, integrity, uprightness.
