This Peony Cloud Border Double Lidded Jewelry Box is a Korean mother-of-pearl box in the form of a double-lidded box, offered in medium size. Its lid is worked with a peony, cloud border design in hand-inlaid nacre.

Heritage & Craft

The peony (moran) is Korea's flower of wealth and honor, long chosen to wish a household prosperity and standing. A border of stylized clouds (unmun) frames the design as an emblem of heaven's favor and good fortune. In najeonchilgi, slivers of natural shell are cut and set into the lacquer by hand, so the design shifts color as the light moves.
