Overview

This round arabesque flower double-lidded jewelry box by Oh Myung-ho is covered in a flowering arabesque vine of hand-inlaid mother-of-pearl, opening to a tray over a deeper well.

Heritage & Craft

The flowering arabesque (dangcho) has decorated Korean lacquerware since the Goryeo era, its endless vine a symbol of continuity and flourishing fortune. The round form lets the scrolling design circle without a visible seam, every leaf a separate sliver of nacre.

Artist

Attributed to Oh Myung-ho. Each box is hand-finished and subtly individual — effectively one of a kind.
