Overview

This double-lidded plum blossom jewelry box in black lacquer carries plum blossoms in hand-inlaid mother-of-pearl, opening to a fitted tray over a deeper well.

Heritage & Craft

The plum blossom (maehwa) flowers through the last snow of winter — Korea's emblem of resilience and quiet hope, and the first of the Four Gracious Plants. Against the deep black ground each five-petaled bloom is a separately cut piece of nacre.

Artist

Made by Kim Yong-gwan, as noted by the workshop. Each box is hand-finished and subtly individual.
