A double-lidded jewelry box in black lacquer by Yoo Chang-geun, its crane-and-pine scene encircled by a ring of phoenixes in hand-inlaid mother-of-pearl.

Heritage & Craft

The phoenix (bonghwang) is Korea's bird of virtue and grace, long reserved for the most auspicious decoration; circled around the crane and pine, it doubles the blessing — noble fortune wrapped around long life. Each feather and bough is an individually cut piece of natural nacre.

Artist

The work of Yoo Chang-geun. Hand-finished, each example subtly individual — effectively one of a kind.
