Najeonchilgi Lacquerware Crane & Pine Ten Symbols of Longevity Double Door Drawer Mother of Pearl Jewelry Box Large

Overview

This Crane & Pine Ten Symbols Jewelry Cabinet is a Korean mother-of-pearl box in the form of a large cabinet with double doors opening to fitted drawers, offered in large size. Its lid is worked with a crane & pine, Ten Symbols of Longevity design in hand-inlaid nacre.

Heritage & Craft

Crane and pine (hak and sonamu) are Korea's enduring pairing for long life and steadfast character. The Ten Symbols of Longevity (sipjangsaeng) gather sun, mountain, water, crane, deer, turtle, pine, bamboo, the fungus of immortality, and rock into a single composite wish for a long, blessed life. In najeonchilgi, slivers of natural shell are cut and set into the lacquer by hand, so the design shifts color as the light moves.
