Premium Najeonchilgi Drawer Flower Pine & Crane Saju Red Jewelry Box Yedan Wedding Gift Box, 32 cm

Overview

A 32 cm saju box in red lacquer with a drawer beneath the main compartment, decorated with cranes among flowering branches. Red is the color Korean families use for the bride's side of a wedding exchange. The drawer means the box keeps a use after the ceremony — the tray above for jewelry, the drawer below for smaller pieces.

Heritage & Craft

Red ottchil is made by grinding pigment into refined lacquer sap, and it is less forgiving than black: the color shifts as it cures, so coats must be matched and built slowly. Against a red ground, cut nacre reads warm rather than cold — the same shell that looks silver on a black box takes on a faint gold cast here.

A saju box carries the groom's birth data to the bride's family before a marriage is agreed. Cranes and blossoms together set the tone of that message: a wish for a union that is both long and flourishing.

Gifting

The traditional vessel for a Korean saju or yedan exchange, and a strong wedding or engagement gift generally. The red finish also makes it one of the few pieces in the range that stands out in a light-colored room rather than receding into it.
